Urban Remains: Feral Interiors
Feral Interiors is a series examining the forgotten and decaying ruins of urban remains: abandoned homes, tenements, industrial/manufacturing sites etc. in various stages of neglect or demolition. I am attracted to their looming presence and curious about what their function might have been.
Once a building has been decommissioned it immediately begins its transformation into a social artifact, not dissimilar to the haunted houses of our childhood that invoked fabulous tales of the previous occupants. With the assistance of transient visitors, the elements and vandals, the artifact falls into ruins. Both stages are visually compelling and fascinate me. I feel an affinity with the energy of decay:peeling paint, abandoned work stations, rusting machinery, grafittied walls etc.
Through the lens I examine the natural process of transience and create a record of what is to invoke the viewer to question and consider the beauty of decommissioned and lapsed spaces.
